About Us

The Sporting Laird & The Home of Golf Tours Ltd. are what is known as ‘Ground Tour Operators.’ All bookings are made with The Home of Golf Tours Ltd. are what is known as ‘Ground Tour Operators.’ This means that we take care of the arrangements once you reach Scottish or Irish soil. But we do not get involved in the air travel or transport to/from Scotland or Ireland. We do take care of all arrangements agreed in advance once you reach Celtic shores.

On this website you will find sample programmes to give you a flavour of tours we have done in the past. BUT each and every tour we organise is customised to suit the requirements of its participants.

The first thing we do is listen. The second thing we do is use our vast knowledge and experience to create the best programme available to meet your goals and desires for your tour. And third, we create a tour that we hope exceeds your expectations.

We are a long established, family run business stretching back over three decades. Our combined passions of golf, history and travel mean that we are uniquely placed and qualified to assist our clients. Over the years we have successfully run the touring company whilst living in Scotland, Ireland, and the United States. This means we know first hand about the golf, places and people we promote.

The Principals are David and Beth Bell. David has lived most of his life in Scotland. He took to golf at a young age. Like Seve, he is wild off the tee, but his precious putter works its magic on the greens. After completing a graduate business course at Durham University, he moved to St. Andrews to fulfill his goal of building a golf touring business in the heart and ‘Home of Golf’ itself. He was one of the founding ‘Protected Tour Operators’ for The St. Andrews Links Trust when the scheme was introduced, and has extensive contacts in the industry throughout Scotland and Ireland.

Whilst Beth grew up on both coasts of America, her Scottish father keenly instilled in her a love of all things Scottish. After a number of years in banking and various private industries, she returned to graduate school at the University of St. Andrews. It was David who introduced her to the game of golf, and she has been hooked ever since. She has a strong interest in medieval history with a special passion in Scotland, its castles and Mary Queen of Scots. She delights in taking people to castles and monuments, but naturally prefers the ones closest to the links!

The Home of Golf Tours Ltd established in 1992 (HMRC company number 2727441).
